Don Corleone (Tanka)

I ask a favor;
You’ll receive my gratitude.
On this paper sheet:
Your signature or your brains,
An offer you can’t refuse.

Inspired by a recent post by Kindra Austin.

The Faerie Queen (Tanka)

The fair fay kingdom
Otherside of the West Wind
Inside the mirror
Enchanted and eternal
Ageless monarch; Faerie Queen.

6/13/17

This tanka is my response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 38 – FAIRY & MAGIC. Note: I substituted “enchanted” for “magic” and used the Old French form “Faerie” for “fairy.”

Now (A Senryu)

Now is all there is:
The past is a memory,
Future just a dream.

5/23/17

My response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 35 – PAST & FUTURE. It is, I believe, more a senryu than a haiku, so I hope that is acceptable (Actually, after learning of the senryu form I may have to reclassify some of my haiku anyway).

Everything You Need (a Tanka)

The allure is strong:
Power, wealth; reputation
Everything you need
For a life of suffering
Ruled by desire and fear.

5/16/17

My response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 34 – POWER & ALLURE

Hunter and Prey (a Tanka)

Eyes glow in the dark
Dead twigs crack under footfall
The prey hears nothing
The circle of life must close
Sharp clean claws will finish it.

5/9/17

My response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 33 – CLEAN & SHARP

Awaiting Judgment (a Casecade)

I await their decision
Not knowing what to do,
Its out of my hands now.

They weigh and judge the facts,
Studying the letter of the law,
I await their decision.

With nothing but time to spend
I sit, fidget and try to distract my mind,
Not knowing what to do.

Even if I cry and scream,
Revisit every stupid mistake,
Its out of my hands now.

5/4/17

This is my first attempt at a Cascade.

Out of the Darkness (a Tanka)

Weighed down in the mire
Wandering around in the dark
Waiting to be saved
And led out into the light,
But you’re your only savior.

5/2/17

This Tanka is in response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 32 – LEAD & SAVE

The Coming War (Tanka)

Armadas set sail
Missiles locked on target
Egos go to war
Everyone else pays the price
In blood and innocent lives

4/25/17

Poem #30 for National Poetry Writing Month (aka #NaPoWriMo).

Peaceful (Haiku)

Warm green peaceful day
Cut grass scents the air around
No more tears will fall

4/25/17

Poem #29 for National Poetry Writing Month (aka #NaPoWriMo)

This Haiku is my second response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 31 – PEACE & TEAR

Tears (a Tanka)

A dull aching pain
A tear tears across your face
The tears tear a hole
Through the middle of your soul
All you wanted was some peace.

Poem #28 for National Poetry Writing Month (aka #NaPoWriMo)

This Tanka is my first response to Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 31 – PEACE & TEAR
