The Process – a tanka

Compose, line by line,
From beginning to end
Until its finished:
Every verse, every rhyme, and
Every single drop of blood.

    • Thank you, Colleen! This one came pretty quickly. I spent more time fretting about how many syllables are in “every” than I did writing!

And yes, I know “every” is considered a two syllable word, though it used to be considered trisyllabic. I personally find myself pronouncing it both ways from time to time & think it may vary by dialect. I almost spelt it “ev’ry” as poets used to to fit a syllable count, but thought it made it look to old fashioned, though I have done so before. In the end, it’s possible I’m over thinking things, but that’s a hazard when you take words seriously 😉
